Loch Island Lodge is seeking a *BREAKFAST COOK/HOUSEKEEPER.* You do not require previous professional culinary experience, as we can train suitable candidates, but prior education or experience is a definite asset.
What does the ideal candidate look like? We keep our guests well-fed with hearty favourites. Our rotating weekly meal schedule includes dishes such as omelettes, eggs Benedict, eggs to order, casseroles, pancakes, French toast, waffles, crepes, hot cereals, and sides of fried potatoes, bacon, sausage, toast, and/or fruit. While some prep can be done the night before, this job requires being in the kitchen by 5:30-6 AM daily and having the food ready at 7 AM. The kitchen should be cleaned by 9 AM, and on most days you will join 2-3 other housekeeping staff for cabin cleaning or laundry tasks until approximately 12-1 PM. On days when we have no hot breakfast scheduled, you will do housekeeping tasks only. Work is 6 days per week, with one day off per week, working 6-8 hours per day. However, the schedule is dynamic and may only require a few hours of work on certain days or long hours on another day.
If interested, you will have the opportunity to cook dinner once a week. This would be your only task for the day.
*Tasks:*
* *Breakfast Cook: *Cook for 2-30+ guests and assorted staff. Maintain a sanitary and orderly kitchen. Help dinner cook with inventory and Sysco order. Follow recipes and do basic calculations to modify recipies.
* *Housekeeping: *Clean cabins (make beds, bleach counters/dressers, clean kitchens, do dishes, clean bathrooms, empty garbage cans, sweep and mop floors). You may be required to clean outpost cabins that are accessible by boat only. General cleaning in the lodge.
* *Laundry: *Do laundry (soaking, washing, and folding bed linens, towels, and kitchen linens)
* *Assorted Tasks: *Answer the telephone and administer fishing licences, restock shelves, garden, assist with town supply runs, etc.

* *Must be eligible to work in Canada*
* You are comfortable speaking, reading, and writing in English
* You will wear a staff T-shirt on shift (provided for free) and follow a dress code
* Culinary training or work experience an asset
* WHMIS, First Aid,
* Safe food handling certificate (at own expense before season starts, approx. $30)
* Knowledge of Sysco product range and ordering process an asset
* Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card (at own expense before the season starts, approx. $50)
* Willingness to operate an 18’ cedar strip boat with a 15 hp outboard by yourself (will train)
* Ability to lift 50 lbs. safely
* Avoid use of alcohol, cannabis, and other substances during work hours
*Financial Details:*
* Salary is $3200/month with 4 days off per month (one day per week).
* Room and board are *FREE*. All employees live on-site due to our location. The breakfast cook has a private room. We include *meals*, laundry, bedding, Starlink internet, boats, fuel, recreational equipment, and staff T-shirts.
* Cooks are included in the tip pool! Tips average $2500-$3500+ per season (CAD/USD mix) depending on quality of service
* We do not fund travel, but we can pick you up at a public transportation point such as the Sault Ste Marie, ON airport, the Wawa bus station, or the VIA Rail Lochalsh flag stop.
